Frequently Asked

Think of psychotherapy as a supportive space just for you. It’s like having a skilled co-pilot for your mind. Together with a trained professional, you navigate thoughts, feelings and emotions, change or upgrade mental habits and build resilience, fostering a healthier and more balanced life suited just for you! It’s a tool for personal growth and self-discovery.

After having a brief 15 minute phone consultation to ask a few questions about you and to get a feel for who I am and if we would be the right fit together, we will schedule a session (if you choose!). Brit will send you copy of her service agreement for you to look over and prepare any questions you may have. We will go over the agreement and sign it during the first session. You can bring a journal to make any notes or to jot down any questions and we may chat more about you, your history, current life, what brought you to therapy and any goals you may have. It is an informal meeting that gives you a chance to get to know me as well and ensure you feel comfortable moving forward.

Psychotherapy services are covered under many extended health care benefits. They are not covered by OHIP. To determine if you do have coverage, you may want to check with your insurance company prior to booking a session. If you do have coverage you are responsible for paying the session fee and then submitting the invoice/receipt of payment provided to your insurance company for reimbursement.

The duration of therapy varies based on each individual and your needs. Some therapies are short term and may last only a few sessions, while others could extend over many months or years. The journey of self discovery, growth and healing is not linear and can look different for everyone. You get to choose what is right for you.

Sessions are commonly scheduled weekly (especially in the beginning stages) but this can vary based on individual needs and the therapeutic approach. Some individuals come weekly, bi-weekly or monthly. It is suggested to begin weekly or bi-weekly if possible.

Yes, you have the autonomy to stop therapy at any time. You always get to choose what is right for you!
